Good afternoon, everyone! I hope you are all doing well. As I am sitting here writing this blog, I just enjoyed a delicious lunch that consisted of a yummy chicken sandwich that I have been craving this week with fries and an iced lemonade. I was enjoying my scrumptious sandwich, all I kept thinking about was how I have been looking forward to Shabbat. You may be asking, what is Shabbat? Shabbat is the day of rest that Adonai gave us according to His word. He too rested from His week of creating the world and everything in it according to Genesis or Bereshit chapter one in the Bible. He set the pattern for us so that we could walk and follow His footsteps.
We live in such a fast-paced world and we are constantly on the go and doing this and doing that. We can be so on the go all the time that we neglect our time to rest not just physically, but also spiritually. We need that time to reconnect with our Creator, to focus on Him with uninterrupted time. Also this is a special time to connect with our families and loved ones. Throughout the week, so many of us are working whether its in the home or the corporate world. The to -do lists pile up, running out to tend to this or that, attending to children's activities during the week can be exhausting after a while. This is why Adonai gave a special day to relax, rest, and refocus our attention back on the things that mean the most- spending time with Him and our loved ones.
There's something wonderful and special about Friday evenings, as the candles are set out, the kiddush cup, the wonderful smell of the different foods, especially the challah, it changes everything. There's a sense of calm that seems to come into the room as we prepare for Shabbat to start. It's so beautiful, we have a hard time seeing it leave as Saturday evening rolls around. I believe Shabbat is a little taste of heaven and it is truly a gift from our wonderful Creator who loves us dearly. How beautiful it is to think that He thought of us when He decided to make one day where we should rest and recharge our batteries each week. So I encourage you to pray and seek Him concerning His beautiful day of rest, it will change your life and you will look forward to it each week that comes around. Shabbat Shalom friends, until next time. Always Am Yisrael Chai!
